The Destination Thailand Visa remains the most flexible option for remote workers: five years of validity, 180 days per entry and one in-country extension of a further 180 days for ฿1,900.
Since August 2026 every applicant must submit a criminal record clearance from their country of residence. Embassies reject applications without it, so order the document early — in Germany the Führungszeugnis takes about two weeks.
The ฿500,000 balance must be visible in a personal bank account across three to six months of statements. Crypto exchange balances, brokerage accounts and company accounts are not accepted. A sudden lump-sum deposit shortly before applying is the single most common reason for refusal.
For the soft-power categories, enrolment confirmation must come from a licensed school, gym or hospital and state the duration of the activity. For remote workers, a foreign employment contract or a portfolio of foreign client contracts works equally well.
Apply from outside Thailand. Vientiane, Kuala Lumpur and Ho Chi Minh City process quickly, but your home country is usually the safest choice because proof of permanent residence is straightforward there.
